Custom Reversible Bodices & Stays

How does this work?
This round opens on March 31st at 9am PST. There are 5 spots available.

1. Choose a spot.
2. Choose either bodice or stays. Only Spot 1 and Spot 2 offer stays.
3. Within 48 hours, you will receive an email from our team to fill out a form where you will make all the choices for your custom order!

Creation Time
Customs currently take 7-8 weeks to complete. The Shopify shipping information does not take this into account. You will be notified once the item is packaged and ready to ship!

Custom options included:
1. Print choice on both sides. When you choose this listing, I will reach out to you within 24 business hours (M-F) to send you what fabrics I currently have in stock. You can pick two different fabrics or one print with a solid in stock on the reverse. Bias tape color will be decided by seller based on prints chosen, what matches best, and what I have available.

2. Length add-on. Adding on 1-2" to the body and/or 1/2-1" to the straps.

3. Customized sizing should your measurements not place in the size chart.

What are bodices and stays?

Bodices are often worn over clothing such as a chemise or dress which is why they are typically made in such decorative prints. In the renaissance period, the peasant class wore a simple bodice or kirtle over a chemise and skirts tucked under. Each are made with boning and meant to be strung tightly to support the back and lift the chest.

These can be used in so many ways, the top being worn on a visit to your next Ren Faire! I will throw one on with a blouse and jeans or skirt to make a modern outfit. There are many ideas and I would love to see yours!

Stays were historically worn to support the bust, trim the waist and hold the shoulders back. They also were worn under garments to smooth the outer layers. Now, they are worn in a variety of ways and for a variety of reasons. They have a much higher amount of boning to offer a more structured support system.

LARP, cosplay, costumes, even daily wear can be seen using stays as a compliment to an outfit. Especially if the stays have creative fabric to bring a little spark to your life.

Materials Used
Fabric: 100% cotton in all four layers (unless a different fabric is chosen). Bias edge is also 100% cotton.
Additional materials: spiral steel boning, coated metal grommets, cord for lacing.

Why are the costs so different?
Bodices take around 3-4 hours to make from start to finish. We are able to create a little production line style to help make the system easier on the team. By doing this, we can keep our costs a little lower with labor.

Stays are a much more complex pattern and do not offer a way to break down the steps as easily. They also use around 30 pieces of boning versus the 8-10 pieces for bodices. Therefore, each one takes about 12-15 hours to complete. To cover costs of both materials and labor, the price is fair.
